Great Kapil Dev, a former all-rounder cricketer of the Indian team, bowled like wind and batted with a hard swing. Kapil Dev was a good striker of the ball and a fast bowler & born in Punjab (Chandigarh) on 06 January 1959. This Legend led the Indian cricket team to great heights. Early stages of Kapil Dev’s Career
On 16 October 1978, Sir Kapil Dev made his international cricket debut in Test format. Although he was not that good in his primary matches, figures were not that good and did not reflect his major contributions in crucial times. He amazed Pakistani batters with his deadly bouncers and sheer pace. Kapil Dev reflected his caliber with his exceptional all-rounder abilities when he scored 50 in 33 balls with 2 Sixes in both innings during the third test in Pakistan (Karachi).
India lost the series by 2-0. India had a series with West Indies on the next stage, Where Kapil Dev scored a test century with a decent bowling performance taking 17 wickets. In a series against England, he scored 45 runs with a low average of 7.5 and took 16 wickets which were terrible. From his debut to the 1979 world cup Indian team would do no wonders on the cricket field.
People started cheering for his talent when he did a five-wicket haul with 28 overall wickets in the series, and he scored 212 runs consisting of a 50 with an Avg of 22.32; from there, he started getting fame. Pakistan had a tour in India in 1979-80 where Kapil Dev managed to take ten wickets to haul in a single match (4 wickets for 90 runs in the first half and seven wickets for 56 runs in the second half of the innings), scoring 84 in just 98 balls in Chennai at Chepauk Stadium. These were his career-best figures till now. Kapil Dev was the youngest one to take 100 wickets and make 1000 runs in just 25 matches.
