In a recent development in the cricket world, Australia cricket has announced that they will not play any cricket with Afghanistan men’s cricket team. This development came after the recent government in Afghanistan announced that they won’t allow the women’s cricket team to play any sports including cricket.
What is the issue?
Recently, Taliban’s cultural commission, Ahmadullah Wasiq, said that it wasn’t necessary for women to play cricket. And, made a clear response that Taliban government won’t allow women to participate in any games. However, in some sports it may be allowed where women are required to cover entire body parts.
Australia Cricket’s response
In response to Taliban’s government response Cricket Australia announced that:
Driving the growth of women’s cricket globally is incredibly important to Cricket Australia. Our vision for cricket is that it is a sport for all and we support the game unequivocally for women at every level.”
“If recent media reports that women’s cricket will not be supported in Afghanistan are substantiated, Cricket Australia would have no alternative but to not host Afghanistan for the proposed Test Match due to be played in Hobart”
How did Afghan board responded?
Afghanistan board requested other national boards not to avoid them due to newly formed Taliban’s government. As, Taliban government announced that women playing any sports without covering face and other body part would be against “Islam”. Due to which Australia Cricket announced that they will not play match with Afghanistan that was to played in November.

Afghanistan cricket Board Reply:
“The ACB is powerless to change the culture and religious environment of Afghanistan,” Shinwari said in the statement, which began with the exhortation “Keep the Door Open for Us! Walk with us!”. “We are concerned that, if other countries’ cricket administrators follow CA, then Afghan cricket will be alienated from the cricket world, the development of cricket in our country will be stalled and, even more concerning, cricket may cease to exist in Afghanistan
